Samuel Cupples and Cupples Hall

The building called “Cupples Hall” today was first known as “Epworth Hall.”  It was a dormitory named after the Epworth Leaguers of Missouri in 1896. Central College had a goal to collect $10,000 in order to renovate the building. In June 1899, Mr. Samuel Cupples gave $25,000 to be used in building,  equipping it to substantial dormitory for men, and to be renamed “Cupples Hall” in honor of the donor. Cupples Hall was finished on December 18, 1899 and was used as a dormitory until 1927.
