In 1906, the University’s library was located on the second room of the Science Hall, which is now called T. Berry Smith Hall, or T. Berry Hall. During 1914, the library had occupied the second and third floor of the Science Hall. While the second floor consisted of general reference room, the reading room and the front desk, the stacks were on the third floor. The library was known to preserve important periodicals and newspapers, which unfortunately made it a fire hazard. As the library expanded, so did the need for a fireproof building.

In 1928, the interior of the building was removed to build a fireproof stack room capable of housing 140,000 volumes, two spacious reading room and a large room on the first floor was set aside for the “Historical Museum”, which is now in T. Berry Hall.
