Fielding Draffen entered Central Methodist University (then Central College) in 1954, the same year as the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision.  He graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and went on to be the first African American air traffic controller at Kansas City Airport.  During his time at Central, Mr. Draffen wrote for the Central Collegian, the University’s student newspaper and the oldest student newspaper in Missouri.
