About Lillian Kappelmann

ARC010108_copy-of-photo-Lillian-Kappelmann-crop.jpg

Photographic portrait of Lillian Kappelmann, taken around the time of her graduation from Howard-Payne College in 1917.  Provided by the family of Lillian Kappelmann.

Lillian Kappelmann entered Howard-Payne College's Conservatory of Music in 1915, where she studied music from and trained as a pianist under the esteemed N. Louise Wright.  At the time, Howard-Payne College's student body was all women and girls, and was a separate institution from the all-male Central College, though the two would frequently share faculty and students.

Following her 1917 graduation, Kappelmann went on to a brief but successful career as a concert pianist, before her death from influenza (Spanish flu) in 1918, on her 21st birthday.
