ALUMNAE
The following article is by Mrs. H. P. Mason.
All will be stirred by the loyal spirit back of these
words. Let us up and work for our Alma Mater.
As the heart of a daughter after she has gone
out into the world constantly turns back to her
mother, so should the heart of every Alumnae go
back to her Alma Mater in love and appreciation for
the pleasures and privileges enjoyed under her roof.
How beautiful and fitting that, individually and collectively,
the Alumnae should show appreciation in a
public way now and then as did we in giving the
grand piano two years ago. This piano is constantly
giving back a gracious record of those who placed it
there, in the beautiful music rendered upon it from
time to time by the Howard-Payne girls who will
later become members. It has been the pride and
pleasure of the Alumnae to work and pray for funds
to meet the payments as they came due and our success
has been very gratifying.
We are now nearing the goal, owing but two
hundred and fifty dollars, and let us fondly hope that
this little appeal will reach somebody who has not
yet contributed and enthuse her to give us a helping
hand in this loyal cause. We hope to give a play
soon and then our annual ice cream supper in May,
with possibly another booth at the county fair.
These things are accomplished mainly by the local
membership, so now will not some other and perhaps
far away communities read this and respond?

Easter Vacation.
The Easter season this year seemed to have
been planned especially to suit those who were "behind
the times" as regards raiment and were unprovided
with new Easter bonnets and the new Easter
growns. However, there is no kind of weather unsuitable
for a vacation, and, although we set out in
hail and tempest and returned in snow and drizzle,
we felt that the short sojourn with friends or home
folks entirely compensated for all the discomfort.
Owing to swollen streams and washed out bridges,
vacation was for a few girls perforce prolonged.

Automathean Open Session.
The members of the Automathean Literary Society
in their open session, given at Classic Hall,
March 17, departed from the order that has been
for sometime followed by both societies, in that they
gave no regular play, but represented the department
of oratory in two numbers, one the balcony
