COUNCIL MEETING - Friday, 10:00 A.M., October 10, 1952 - in Brannock 200;
President Ralph L. Woodward presiding.
—
The meeting was opened with prayer by Dr. Schaff, after which Preident Woodward presented some items of business, and Dean Buckner made some announcements.
Council Meetings
The question of how often the Council should meet, carried over from the September 19 Council meeting, came up for additional discussion at this meeting. President Woodward pointed out that, although the Council is a legislative body set up for the purpose of
taking action, most of what takes place in the weekly meetings is of such a nature that it need not be confined to the Council. For instance, some of the meetings consist almost entirely of discussion and making announcements, the President observed. He said that he and Dean Buckner had given some thought to this matter and that it was his own feeling that perhaps one regular meeting of the Council each month devoted to matters which require action would be sufficient, with any additional meetings on call that may
seem necessary. Several members of the Council spoke in favor of the President's suggestion. Another suggestion was to keep the Council meetings on a weekly basis but permit faculty mebers to sit in on all of the meetings without a vote when action is
taken. After some discussion,
Faculty-Staff Meetings
President Woodward referred to an agreement reached in the faculty meeting of September 26 to have one combined Faculty-Staff meeting each month instead of two separate meetings, one of the faculty and another of faculty and staff members. He expressed some doubt as to whether that plan would prove practicable, but said the committee had arranged to have the faculty and the staff to meet on the same evening with the faculty meeting first, followed by the combined Faculty-Staff meeting. Dr. Perry pointed out that there were so many problems that would be of primary interest to the faculty but which would not concern the staff, it had seeed best not to have the whole meeting a combined one. He announced the plan of the comittse to have the first meeting on Wednesday, October 15, with the faculty in session from 6:30 until 7:00 p.m., and the
combined group of faculty and staff meeting from 7:00 until 8:00 in Brannock 200. There is to be a program for the Faculty-Staff meeting.
Report of Committee on Staff and Lyceum Programs
President Woodward presented a report of the Committee on Staff and Lyceum Programs. In
the report, plans for the year's program were outlined. There are to be four numbers during the first semester, the first of which (the political meeting on October 3) has been had, according to the report.

Dr. Perry moved: "That the Council meet regularly once a month at a set time and be subject to call at other times as the need may arise." The motion, seconded by Professor Spayde, was carried. Dr. Buckner set the time for the regular meeting at 10:00 a.m., on the first Friday of each month.
